Mission Statement for the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa

"Our goals are to provide a safe, clean and caring environment for pets in need, to assure that only healthy, altered pets are returned to the community, and to educate the public about the importance of proper pet care and pet population control."

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit supported by private contributions, fundraisers, membership and cage and kennel sponsorship program.  We receive no government funding or funds from any national pet welfare organization.

On April 11th, our shelter was broken into and two dogs were stolen.

A few days later, one was found shot to death.

Jericho
Jericho was deaf. He was also a very special dog who was lucky enough to spend part of last summer in a foster home on West Lake Okoboji.  When he was returned to the shelter after his stay in foster care, he befriended every dog and person at the shelter.  Everyone loved him.  Then, finally, in January 2010, he was adopted to a loving family where he lived out the rest of his days happy and knowing he was loved.  His death broke the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Read his story through the eys of his adoptive family.
