ADOPTION POLICY

All companion pets on public display in the shelter are available for adoption. (Except Montana, C.E.D. and Fiver, Therapy Bunny)

Upon choosing a companion pet to adopt, you will be required to complete an adoption application. The purpose of this application is to ensure your home and family are suitable for the companion pet you have chosen and that the pet is right for your family and home.  It is our goal to permanently place companion pets in stable, supportive and loving homes.  Once your adoption application is approved, in most cases you can take the animal home the same day.

Special terms must be met if you live outside of our service area.  Before coming to the shelter, please read and meet the terms outlined in the "If You Live Outside Our Service Area" section below.

Renters must fill out a Landlord Permission Form and have it signed by your landlord prior to adopting a pet. This is to provide you and your adopted pet protection from a landlord who might change his mind.

Adoption applications must be filled out by the adopter at the shelter.  We do not use an online application.

We accept cash or checks only.  You may also pay through PayPal.  A 3% service fee will be added to PayPal payments.

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ADOPTION TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON.

1. You will need to furnish a written, signed reference from your vet prior to completing the adoption process. This can be faxed to us at 712-338-2738, or you can bring it with you. This reference must on the veterinarian's letterhead. If you are unable to furnish a veterinarian's reference, please contact us for alternate instructions.

2. Adoptions of unaltered puppies and kittens outside our service area will have an additional charge of $50/puppy and $30/kitten. Upon proof of altering and rabies vaccination, the adopter will be reimbursed at the rate of $75/puppy and $50/kitten. Proof of alteration and rabies must be postmarked on or before contractual spay/neuter date.
