The Organization

The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa was founded by concerned citizens and became incorporated in 1988.  Until a facility was built in 1998, the animals the HSNWIA helped were housed in several private homes in the area.

The Facility

The Chelsea Animal Shelter, home of the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa, was opened in 1997. The main building houses the reception area, offices, staff / laundry room, dog kennels, impound area, board room, dog food room, crematorium, isolation room and janitor's room. The Weaver addition, built in the late 90's, houses the Cattery and garage/storage area.
